Framarz (Fred) Hidaji, M.D.

Dr. Hidaji has practiced as a fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologist since 1997, providing surgical and clinical care for children ranging from newborn period on. Dr. Hidaji served an ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA and a pediatric ophthalmology fellowship at Indiana University. In 2000, he established Visionary Eye Care in Memphis, TN, an ophthalmology practice providing comprehensive pediatric ophthalmology for 3000+ patient visits/year. During his tenure in Memphis, TN, he was the sole pediatric ophthalmologist at a 30 bed Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, providing Retinopathy of Prematurity screening and treatment for this unit, including indirect diode laser retinal treatment and intravitreal anti-VEGF injections. In 2017, he was recruited by the Duke University Eye Center to establish a new pediatric ophthalmology center in Winston-Salem, NC. Dr. Hidaji has contributed to three textbooks in Pediatric Ophthalmology. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine. Dr. Hidaji has contributed his skills and expertise to a dozen volunteer surgical teaching missions in the third world, travelling to Africa, the Philippines, Asia, Central America, and the Middle East with multiple organizations. Dr. Hidaji has taught surgical techniques in pediatric ophthalmology through his work with Project Orbis and the World Cataract Foundation. He lectures on diverse topics including the patient-doctor relationship and integrative medicine. Dr. Hidaji is a certified yoga instructor and meditation trainer. His outside interests include astrophotography and woodturning.
